ABOUT

Hello, I’m Tanya

I can’t remember a time when art and creativity haven’t been part of my life. As a small child I was always drawing and dreaming.

My love of nature and the garden was fostered by my grandparents, whose hearts were full of awe and wonder at the turning of the seasons, the marvelousness of animals and the beauty of each new day. For most of my adult life, I was a passionate and successful painter. Commencing my Fine Art degree at Curtin University (WA) I finished it at Southern Cross University (Lismore, NSW), where, whilst painting I happened to share a studio with a group of ceramic artists. I was transfixed by the beauty and fineness of their slip cast forms. And here, first awakened my love of porcelain.

Twenty–five years later, living in Fremantle WA, I found myself once again returning to clay, reveling in the alchemical connections of working with earth and fire.

Now today, I work from my sunlit studio in Fremantle surrounded by the scent of fresh clay, my flower and vegetable gardens. I witness the diverse native bird life, my chooks and ducks jostling for prime position and Willamina , my resident Djiti-Djiti, (Willy Wagtail). She visits me in the studio, flittering about cleaning the insects from studio corners, standing nearby to watch me work and chirp her critiques…often suddenly finding herself immortalized in clay.

And so now I have come full circle, combining my love of the garden, nature, painting and porcelain into one artistic practice.

My work is all hand painted making each piece unique. I hope you’ll find the perfect piece to cherish or gift, and that it will find a place in your home for years to come.
